Setting up Nifty
The first time Nifty opens, it asks a few questions so it feels like yours.
The first time Nifty opens, it welcomes you with a few short steps. The list down the side shows where you are. Your answers stay in your Nifty and never leave it, and you can change any of them later in Settings.
Your name
On a Mac or PC, Nifty starts with the name on your computer. Check it and choose Continue. Your full name is best, because Nifty uses it for you in notes, people and meetings.
On a server, you type your name on the setup page before Nifty opens.
Choose how you sign in
This step appears only on a server. Choose the username and password you'll sign in with on every device. Nifty starts the username with your first name. The password needs at least 8 characters.
Until you set a password, the setup link from the server's log signs you in again. If you close the page, open the link to carry on. Once the password is set, the link stops working.
About you
Add your email address and phone number, and say where you are. Nifty uses your time zone for reminders, your calendar and Today. These details fill in your own page in People (Your own page). Choose Skip for now to add them later.
Make it yours
Pick a favourite colour, and choose light, dark or to match your device. Nifty changes as you pick. To change these later, see Settings.
Keep a backup
Back up daily is on to start, and we recommend you keep it on. Nifty makes a backup once a day while it's running, and always makes one before an update. Choose Not now to leave daily backups off. See Backups.
These backups are kept on the same computer or server as your data. We recommend you also turn on disk encryption and back up the whole computer, for example with Time Machine on a Mac.
Your licence
Nifty is free to try for 14 days. Start a free trial is chosen to start: choose Continue to use everything until the date shown. If you've bought Nifty, choose I have a licence key, paste the key from your email and choose Add licence. See Your licence.
All done
